CFP receives Lumley Leadership Award for Lake Stewardship

Award presented by the Clean Lakes Alliance at their annual “Save the Lakes” Breakfast

Dane, Wis. – May 09, 2017 –The Lumley Leadership Award for Lake Stewardship was awarded to Clean Fuel Partners, LLC (Clean Fuel) at the Clean Lakes Alliance’s annual Save the Lakes Breakfast for its vital work to promote clean lakes by reducing phosphorus entering the Yahara Watershed.

“Since taking over the operation of the Dane biodigester, Clean Fuel Partners has shown they are committed to making our community’s lakes cleaner and healthier,” said Clean Lakes Alliance Executive Director James Tye.

“They have made significant investments in the facility that have improved its operation, but their commitment extends far beyond the facility itself. Their leaders routinely attend our monthly science talks, and help educate our members on the importance of digesters in our watershed by hosting tours and learning sessions. We are happy to have Clean Fuel Partners as OUR partners in improving our lakes.”

The Dane Facility was launched to address a great need in the community: removing phosphorus in manure from local farms to prevent it from entering runoff into the Yahara chain of lakes. The facility accomplishes this through anaerobic digestion and removal of phosphorus from nearly 55 million gallons of manure annually, while creating clean energy. Since they acquired the facility in late 2015, Clean Fuel has invested significant resources to enhance operations and environmental safeguards. These investments have resulted in a 35% increase in the amount of phosphorous removed and 18% increase in clean energy production.

“Clean Fuel fosters solutions that support agriculture and the environment. We are honored to receive this award from an organization that has done so much to protect and restore our state’s watersheds,” said Clean Fuel Founder and CEO John Haeckel. “We look forward to continuing our partnership with the Clean Lakes Alliance to further support and enhance Wisconsin’s lakes.”
