Having a major piece of digester facility infrastructure fail can be devastating and overwhelming do to the potential for long downtime and large repair costs. Sometimes the only bit of comfort a digester owner can have in these situations is knowing they have a team with the experience and determination to fix the problem efficiently.
One of these major failures occurred at the Crave Bros Facility, where the top of the digester tanks deformed do to excessive pressure. While the events that caused failure were likely a result of another part of the system not performing properly, it became evident that the top ring of the digester structure simply wasn’t strong enough.
This project included the repair, upgrade design, and installation of damaged digester tanks.
- Met with a tank manufacturer to evaluate damage and come up with a stronger design.
- Put together a project budget and presented to owners.
- Contracted with a tank erector to install new tank design
- Designed and installed a more robust and reliable roof support system.
Sometimes original designs don’t perform as planned due to a number of variables, but what is important is having the knowledge and experience to address the issue efficiently and effectively, along with the willingness to be truthful about the realities of the situation.
